Will the Hits Deep Tour Happen Again

Have yous always idea what would happen if an asteroid threatens to hit our world? After watching a moving picture like Armageddon, did you remember that such a scenario could actually happen?

Today, June 30, is celebrated as the International Asteroid Solar day. Since today has been appear every bit "Asteroid Day" to create global awareness of asteroids, we volition take a journey on asteroids, the threats posed by asteroids, and how we can be protected from asteroid strike in this article.

"What are asteroids and how are asteroids distinguished?" It is among the most fascinating topics when it comes to our beautiful heaven. The most famous asteroid we know crashed World millions of years ago, causing the extinction of dinosaurs. Scientists describe asteroids as "rocky celestial bodies that orbit the Sunday and are much smaller than planets". There are thousands of oddly shaped asteroids in the asteroid belt located between Mars and Jupiter. The asteroid belt is thought to be either residuals from a planet formed due to Jupiter'southward close-upward strength, or "rubble" left over from a planet shattered by a standoff.

Ceres, the largest of the asteroids, whose dimensions can vary from 10 meters to chiliad kilometers wide, is about 960 km wide. One of the biggest reasons for scientific interest in asteroids is the possibility of having relatively unchanged remnants of the solar system'south formation process from 4.vi billion years ago.

It is totally acceptable to worry about an asteroid crashing into the Earth, even though most asteroids are smashed earlier they enter the Globe's temper. Just similar the asteroid that acquired the extinction of the dinosaurs, they tin leave their orbits and hit the Earth.

So what happens if the bad scenario happens, that is, an asteroid hits Earth? With an asteroid hitting the World; dust and fume rising in the atmosphere prevents sunlight from reaching our world and causes the total temperature to drop. This outcome can lead to the death of many living things. If an asteroid the size of an apartment hits Earth, this blow could possibly destroy a small metropolis. If an asteroid the size of a 20-storey building hits World, this accident can completely flatten a pocket-sized country.

The biggest reasons for scientists to research asteroids, in addition to having more information about the solar system, is that they want to larn their full numbers and learn more about their trajectories and physical properties. If the form of an asteroid turns towards usa, of class we would like to know!

On June thirty, 1908, a forty-meter asteroid hit the Tunguska region in Siberia. This affect destroyed a London-sized woodland, making it the most influential and most important asteroid impact in recent world history. On June thirty, 2016, it was declared as "International Asteroid Day" by the United nations, and it was aimed to raise awareness about the threat of collision with Earth, created by countless celestial bodies floating in space. Every year on Asteroid Mean solar day, scientists, astronauts, and celebrities come together to assistance heighten awareness well-nigh the dangers our planet faces from Earth-crossing asteroids. In these events, our poor defense state in space is emphasized confronting potential asteroid collisions, and in the result that these dangerous and free-floating celestial objects turn to Earth, scientific discipline fiction scenarios and possible solutions are explained.

The only way to eliminate the threat of the asteroid hitting the Earth is to detect them and divert them from their course. Many organizations, primarily NASA, perform regular scans of the sky to place angelic bodies at risk of hitting our planet. These organizations actively seek out the best ways to protect the Earth from angelic bodies that could hit it. By preparing with good planning, nosotros can prevent the destructive issue an asteroid can have.

These studies, chosen planetary defense, consist of v steps.

Apart from all these, apprentice astronomers can work together with scientists to defend our planet. Amateur astronomers tin can help identify smaller and potentially destructive asteroids hidden in the universe.

Hither we are sharing the nigh special moments of Moon Landing dorsum in 69' and dreaming of a settlement on the lunar surface which can exist observed with naked eye from earth inside the third upshot of our Astro Newsletter.

"Last 5%"  the words of Fizz Aldrin, pilot of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing Module, echoed in the mission control centre on July xx, 1969, at 8:xvi PM in Houston.

Two astronauts, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, were just thirty meters above the surface of the Moon. But they only had 5% of their fuel left. Buzz Aldrin checked the gauges one time over again and he said "last 22 meters" to Neil.

When the clocks showed viii:17 p.g., the Lunar Lander Eagle seemed to be reborn in a dust cloud on the Moon's surface with two astronauts within. This new achievement of mankind echoed throughout the universe with the words of mission commander Neil Armstrong who remained silent till then, "Houston, Tranquillity base of operations here, Eagle has landed!".

About two hours later, at 10:56 p.m. (EDT), the kickoff homo trace to be left on the lunar surface was made by Neil Armstrong equally follows;

Now, exactly 53 years later, some other rocket is making its final preparations for the same target on the ramp where the Saturn V rocket, which took mankind to the Moon for the outset fourth dimension, was launched. The rocket, called the Space Launch System (SLS), aims to take humanity back to the Moon. But this time, it is planned to establish a permanent settlement there rather than just visiting.

In the past weeks, NASA has completed its full fuel exam chosen the "Moisture Dress Rehearsal", which is the last test of the SLS rocket inside the new infinite program called Artemis. The examination is called "Wet Dress Rehearsal" since this exam involves the process of filling and emptying all liquid fuels into tanks. This last test is too a sign for the real launch time approaching.

The first mission will be unmanned. SLS will will provide the initial thrust to carry the Orion space capsule, jointly developed past the European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA, into orbit of the Moon. Afterwards, Orion will return to Earth by making one full orbit effectually the Moon.

NASA aims to launch manned missions to the Moon again in 2024.

A rocket launched from Earth needs to consume tons of fuel to escape the Earth's gravitational force and reach its orbit. According to Newton'due south third constabulary of motion, the thrust coming from a rocket engine is called "action", and ascension of the rocket as a result of this action is called "reaction". Since Globe'south gravitational force is also potent, the thrust must exist more powerful than the weight of rocket for the reaction to occur.

Manned missions to be launched to Mars in the future will also consume a lot of fuel due to this gravitational strength. If an object is thrown into space from a celestial torso with 6 times less gravitational force, it will be possible to travel much farther using much less fuel. That's why establishing a base of operations on the lunar surface and reaching Mars or other celestial bodies from there is planned.

In add-on, if the missions are accomplished, NASA is preparing to blaze a tra il past sending the starting time woman to Moon. Since all 12 astronauts who walked on the lunar surface betwixt 1969 and 1972 were men, this fourth dimension, NASA is working on sending the first female person astronaut to walk on the Moon with the Artemis program.

What do y'all think how the Moon, shining similar a gilt disk in the heaven especially during the full moon, will look similar after all these missions?

Will we one day be able to sit down and lookout man the launches from the lunar surface with our telescopes while today information technology is necessary to get to the rocket launch site to watch the launches into space?

We are holding our breath for it!

The 2nd issue of our Astro Newsletter, feeding space enthusiasts with science, is gear up to reveal the unknown about the near asked topic well-nigh space.

Black Holes

Let's keep a journey into the unknown and illuminate the darkest spots of the universe together.

Since it does non contain even a low-cal inside or around it, this unknown place is called a "black pigsty". The proper noun was start used in 1967 past theoretical physicist John Wheeler in a briefing at NASA.

How do we see black holes that don't even have light?

The importance of the low-cal in observation of the universe is enormous. In elementary observation telescopes that we use to detect space from Earth, an image is obtained as a result of magnifying the light of the celestial body in space with the aid of a lens. In such a case, it will be impossible to observe a black hole which does not have fifty-fifty light past using observation telescopes.

However, if at that place is a star or high-density gas component near the blackness hole, the black hole can pull them correct into itself.

Those pulled materials form a structure chosen accretion deejay effectually the blackness pigsty. This structure creates a spiral structure just like a sink drain towards the inside of the black pigsty, and the objects following this structure are swallowed by the black hole. The accretion disk orbits around the blackness hole at nigh the speed of lite, and the temperature rises to millions of degrees due to the collision or friction of the particles in the disk. At this phase, a black hole tin can be mentioned when this temperature is detected by advanced telescopes that brand X-ray observations.

The supermassive black hole in the center of gigantic elliptical galaxy M87 was observed with this method for the kickoff time in Apr 2019 equally part of the Event Horizon Telescope project.

There are 3 different types of black holes, which we can classify as larger or smaller like every other object in the universe.

Stellar-Mass Black Holes

They are also called remnants of massive stars. The diameters of these black holes are typically between 16 and 48 km. Depending on the mass of the star, this type of black hole is formed when a star much larger than the Sun explodes and collapses with a supernova. If the mass of the star is relatively low, a star called Neutron may form instead of a black hole when this plummet stops at one point. The proportion of these blackness holes in the observable universe is about ane%. Although this percentage may seem small, scientists think that there are more than 40 Centrillion (40x1018) stellar-mass blackness holes in the observable universe.

nasa.gov

Intermediate Blackness Holes

These are slightly larger than stellar-mass black holes and way smaller than supermassive black holes were introduced in 2021. It was first discovered by scientists post-obit a gamma-ray burst. These black holes are also formed as a event of plummet of the star only this time the star is manner bigger. The mass of the offset discovered mid-level black hole is 55 thousand times greater than the Sun.

nasa.gov

Supermassive Blackness Holes

The biggest, about surprising, and most intriguing black holes are supermassive black holes. The mass of these black holes is billions of times greater than the Sunday. According to a full general theory, at that place is ane of these blackness holes at the center of each galaxy. For case, Sagittarius A, believed to exist located in the center of our own galaxy (Milky Way), has a mass of about 4 one thousand thousand times greater than the mass of the Sun.

Researches continue on how supermassive black holes course. Equally a result of these studies, the well-nigh supported theory is that supermassive black holes may have formed from collapsing interstellar hydrogen clouds in the early history of the universe. Co-ordinate to another theory, these black holes were formed as a consequence of the merging of more than than one black pigsty and accumulating backlog mass over the centuries.

And so what is inside a black hole?

Unfortunately, nosotros cannot see within black holes where even lite is trapped. However, according to astrophysical theories, the middle of a black pigsty is also known as the place where the mass of the entire black hole is full-bodied in a small signal of infinite density (singularity). This point is thought of as the center of that enormous gravitational force of the blackness hole. We can but understand the gravitational force hither with quantum physics. However, since we practise non nevertheless accept a breakthrough theory of gravity, information technology is unfortunately incommunicable to define what actually happens at the heart of a blackness hole.

Thanks to the developing technology, we photographed a blackness hole for the get-go time using eight unlike telescopes from all over the globe. Too, we are building Breakthrough computers by developing technological systems, trying to make calculations with those computers and trying to reveal the secrets of the universe day by twenty-four hours.

Do you think the secrets of black holes volition be solved in the near future? Will Einstein's and Hawking's theories exist proven?

1- James Webb Space Telescope

Since 2018, all infinite enthusiasts were waiting for the launch of James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). Lots of changes were happening with the telescope and unfortunately, all nosotros heard was back to back delays. But finally, JWST launched into space last year. This space telescope has a primary mirror with an approximately 6.5 meter diameter, which would give it a significantly larger collecting area than the Hubble SpaceTelescope's mirror. Hubble has a much smaller mirror with ii.4 meters in diameter and its corresponding collecting surface area is iv.v mii, giving Webb around half dozen.25 times more space! We are looking forward to getting the beginning images from JWST in June 2022 as NASA declared!

2-Psyche Mission

Another amazing mission is coming from Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) named Psyche. This mission will be a journeying to ane of the metallic-rich asteroids called Psyche, which is currently orbiting within the asteroid belt. You may ask "Why this asteroid?", well asteroid Psyche appears to be the nickel-iron cadre of an early on planet. Which ways it could take secrets about the early on solar organisation that would allow us to understand previously unexplored building blocks of planet formations.

3-DART in Infinite!

Double Asteroid Redirection Exam Mission -before long Dart- is a planetary defense applied science test and in this mission, a spacecraft volition clash with an asteroid in order to change its course. Thanks to this mission, we will take a run a risk to practice how to prevent a chancy asteroid that could touch World. During this mission, the asteroid named Dimorphos will be used every bit the target. The Sprint spacecraft will smash into Dimorphos on September 26, 2022.

iv-Three New Missions for Venus

3 new missions targeting planet Venus will be adult by NASA and European Space Bureau (ESA) in 2022.

ESA's EnVision will conduct some observations of Venus to sympathize its history.

On the other hand, NASA'south DAVINCI+ (Deep Atmosphere Venus Investigation of Noble gases, Chemistry, and Imaging), every bit an atmospheric entry probe, tin can provide the direct measurements of Venus's temper.

Also VERITAS (Venus Emissivity, Radio Scientific discipline, InSAR, Topography, and Spectroscopy) will generate the global topography data of Venus. Humanity will make the most comprehensive report of Venus e'er with these missions.

5-Mission to Jupiter'southward Icy Moons!

JUICE - Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer will be one of the large-class missions co-ordinate to ESA's Catholic Vision 2015-2025 program. The mission is planned to observe the gas giant Jupiter and its largest moons Europa, Ganymede and Callisto. The scientists will exist able to characterize the conditions on the Jovian icy satellites and they volition wait for habitable environments on the iii ocean-bearing worlds, Ganymede, Europa, and Callisto.

6-New Wheels on Mars

2022 ExoMars Rover and Surface Platform are designed to sympathize if there always was life on Mars. The mission is led collaboratively by ESA and Roscosmos. NASA besides participates in the mission by providing critical elements to the premier astrobiology musical instrument on the rover. ExoMars rover and its surface platform are scheduled to launch anywhere between August and October, 2022.

7-Milestones and Decades on Mars!

Information technology has been and so long since the outset rover on Mars. Sojourner and its mothership Pathfinder had landed 25 years agone, on July four, 1997. This means, as humanity, we have been collecting data with wheels on Mars since 1997 and with existing and new missions, we shall go on to do so. Also, Marvel rover landed on Mars dorsum in 2012. This ways we will be celebrating the tenth anniversary of that amazing landing. Besides Pathfinder and Sojourner, Curiosity rover is still functional and continues to collect data for humanity.

viii-Touching the Sun Over again, This Time Much Closer

Last year, NASA's Parker Solar Probe had flown through the Sun's corona and gained information nearly the magnetic field of the Sun and sampled the particles. In 2022, there will exist closer encounters with the Sun. You may exist concerned about the spacecraft, just you shouldn't exist. Because, even during the closest encounter, as Parker Solar Probe's rut shield temperature reaches 1377 Celsius degrees, the instruments inside will stay every bit cool as they are in room temperature.

ix-Private Companies on the Moon

The last human being beingness on the moon was in 1972 with ii Apollo astronauts. In the future, with the Artemis Programme, humanity will go there once more, just this time for a permanent settlement. NASA started a huge campaign and invited several individual sector companies to build all types of structures on the Moon. In 2022, as a part of NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS), ii companies; Astrobotic and Intuitive Machines have scheduled launches and they will deliver scientific payloads to the Moon.

x-Optical Communication

If you have already participated in our altitude learning programs FEP and PSSP, we are quite sure that you will remember the optical communication tech from our Living and Working in Space project topic. This twelvemonth, with the Psyche mission, Deep Space Optical Communications (DSOC) systems will also launch. Thanks to these systems, we will have faster communication and will be able to send and receive larger amount of data via higher data rates.

All those things are expected to exist done just in a year. And then imagine a decade. What practice you lot think awaits humanity in the field of space science in the next x years?

Space Military camp Turkey Through The Optics Of An Experienced Chaperone

Below is an interview nosotros've conducted with i of our experienced chaperones; Mrs. Elizabeth Wahlert – Athanassiadis, Country Coordinator of Greece for Infinite Army camp Turkey. We would like to thank her and all the other teachers/chaperones very much and hope to take many more collaborations together.

When did you first attend a programme at Space Camp Turkey? Do you retrieve your feelings at that time?

In January of 2003, I accepted an invitation from ESBAS and Space Campsite Turkey (SCT) to come to Izmir, visit the bounds and meet the organizers of the programme. My enthusiastic interest in SCT and the scholarship programme resulted in the opportunity to award scholarships to ten deserving teenagers from Athens, Greece and my responsibility for them when we came to SCT in July of 2003. My close professional and personal affiliation with SCT has spanned seventeen years. I remember all of the students who were members of that original team from Athens. They are now 28 years old and are leaders in their chosen professions. Some live and piece of work in Greece, but the vast majority of these young adults have called to alive and work abroad.

What were the reactions / impressions of the first group of students you brought? Are yous nevertheless in touch with some of them?

Our first SCT MISSION in July of 2003 was unforgettable and truly unique. Student participants and their educator coordinators had come up from the four corners of the earth; New York, California, Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, and Israel among others. To this day, those who were members of the Greek delegation talk most that experience. Extensive and meticulous arrangements had been made to make it possible for the students to inquire questions to the astronauts who were on a space mission orbiting over Turkey. The excitement was electric among anybody at SCT as the connection was made and the students asked their advisedly written questions and received answers from the astronauts in space. Filming of the activities of that week resulted in a DVD that nosotros were given and which I withal treasure as a visual reminder of that truly amazing globe class experience.

That aforementioned summer, in July of 2003, Bill Stavroulakis, who was a member of that first SCT MISSION from Greece, was given the Outstanding Camper medal. Bill Stavroulakis holds a caste from the National Technical Academy of Athens and currently lives in San Francisco, California. He is the Senior Software Engineer at a company designing self-driving automobiles that will be the wave of the futurity in the automotive manufacture. Another young woman who was a member of our first SCT team found the experience to be life changing and went on to pursue her interest in Physics at an outstanding university in Scotland. She received a PhD in Robotics with an affiliation with the needs of the international space exploration programmes.

How many times and in which programs take yous participated over the years? What were your impressions as an educator?

In conversing with other SCT chaperones from around the world , I have detected a certain corporeality of surprise and disbelief when I tell them that I accept organized Greek SCT teams and personally brought them to SCT on at least fourteen unlike occasions. Every bit an international educator, it is important to larn from young people by communicating with them, observing them in real life learning experiences, and watching them interact with other teenagers from around the earth while assuming leadership roles in team based activities. It is through the SCT experience that we as educators envision the futures of our students who have been chosen to receive SCT scholarships. Well-nigh accept gone on to realize my dreams for their futures. Several have received PhDs from reputable universities in Europe and the United States in the fields of Astrophysics and Robotics with a focus on infinite technology and exploration. Others take won international grants for projects relating to Physics and high power telescopes. I am proud to say that all have gone on to be leaders in their chosen professions and careers.

Can you lot share a memory you have from your days at Space Camp Turkey?

The numerous memories of my SCT experiences accept given me considerable pride and joy as an international educator. Most significantly, I am proud of all the Greek scholarship recipients, just in detail those who, on six different occasions, accept been awarded either the Outstanding Camper medal or the Right Stuff medal at graduation ceremonies at the finish of their Space Camp Turkey experiences.

Do you lot accept a message for families and children who want to participate in the programs?

Over the class of the past seventeen years, hundreds of deserving Greek teenagers from the Athens metropolitan area have had the opportunity to participate in the vi mean solar day International Infinite Military camp Turkey plan. Each one of these students has acknowledged that this was a world grade learning experience. Some of the teenagers decided to return and participate in the programme more than than in one case. In fact, one fellow took office in 4 SCT summer experiences and served equally a student leader for four sequent years. He had his own mission . . . he wanted to be selected as the Outstanding Camper. On his 4th and final mission he realized his personal goal and SCT mission!

The Ultimate Trip Opportunity For Families

Many consider the International Summer Camps to be the platonic pick when it comes down to picking an educational and fun event for children. But there is ane of import detail that people seem to overlook. These camps really create a window of opportunity for parents to embark on a journey that is full of exploration and adventure while their children are having the time of their lives at a summer camp! Of class, this miracle gets even better if the summertime camp and the parent's adventurous journey happen to take place within the same geographic region. This has actually been the case for several families that accept sent their children to Space Campsite Turkey which is located in Izmir. At that place are several reasons why Izmir is considered as ane of the all-time places to visit in Turkey with the family unit.

  • Why is Izmir the best selection for a family unit vacation?
  • What are the benefits of participating in Infinite Military camp Turkey'south summer camps for children?
  • Why you lot should send your child to Infinite Army camp Turkey?

City of Izmir

Outset of all, let u.s. get-go with the fact that Infinite Camp Turkey is located in the beautiful Aegean city of Izmir. The city, as well known every bit Smyrna, is the 3rd almost populous city in Turkey. Information technology has hosted dozens of different civilizations throughout its long history and for this reason it is total of historical sites. For a list of things to do in Izmir and some brief information, nosotros strongly suggest you check out the website of Municipality of Izmir by clicking hither.

Beautiful Spots in Izmir

Secondly, bold that a potential trip to Izmir would happen during the summertime flavor, for many, it is important to have access to a beach. Fortunately, Izmir has lots of charming seaside towns famous with great beaches such as Cesme, Foca, Dikili, Urla, Gumuldur, Karaburun, Menderes, Alacati, Selcuk and Seferihisar. These embankment resort towns are well continued with Izmir metropolis center, besides take some of the most popular blue flag beaches around the province.

The Real Winners

So far we have covered why Izmir could be a peachy travel destination for adults but let's non forget who the real winner is here; the children who attend Space Camp Turkey's Summer Camp Programs! The International Summertime Camp Programs at Space Camp Turkey go by the name "Galactic Summertime Army camp" and the name is justified by the countless activities that take identify during the week. The scientific and entertaining activities taking place at the Galactic Summertime Camp offer a unique opportunity for children to learn while having fun, build new friendships, and make the all-time out of their summer holidays. Summer science military camp activities are held in six-day periods during June-August. Summer camp programs offered in some weeks are differentiated with special themes such as the Apollo Calendar week or the Asteroid Week. Click on the program name to learn more about our Galactic Summer Camp programs.

So, as yous tin empathize from the reasons stated above, for an adult to plan out a holiday for themselves in Izmir while their children have a blast at Space Camp Turkey is a very feasible option. This way, the parents get to travel with their children on the style to Izmir and back.
